White Paper: The Killer App for Multicore
This white paper (free to download) marries together the onward progress of Moore’s Law, which has been diverted by the inability to further increase clock speeds, and the use of parallel processing database architectures to provide fast answers to database queries on very large databases. The genesis of the white paper was a conversation between myself and Paul Salazar, of Greenplum, who chose to sponsor the white paper. Greenplum were specifically interested in highlighting the fact that database growth at the top end has actually been more dramatic than the growth in Moore’s Law. Parallelization is now “de rigeur” for querying very large databases.
